There are actually species of cacti that are native to Kentucky. I have found it growing on the hilltops in the Dale Hollow and Cumberland Lake region. In fact, there is an island in Dale Hollow Lake that is named Cactus Island that is almost on the Tennessee border. The cactus has long since been removed by visitors, but the name remains. The cactus I have seen is a low growing ground cover type of cacti and I do not know its' name.
For what it is worth, some of this cactus was taken to the Cincinnati area in the 1970's and still lives in my sisters garden.
Good luck with your cacti.

Ok this is retarted...but I'm guessing Kentucky gets cold. lol Anyway I live in PA and have a variety of cactus planted in a rock garden. It survives all of our winters and always comes back for spring and summer.

Yes, but only a few varieties, as most are not winter hardy. Opuntias (prickly pear) would be your best choice. I've grown them for years on Cape Cod. Their flowers in spring are really glorious.

temperature is not a problem but you may very well get to much rain, they will not tolerate being wet for extended periods of time
