Register your phone number with the National Do Not Call Registry at:

https://www.donotcall.gov/

The registration is good for five years. It may take 31 days before you notice a change, but it is worth it. If a telemarketer calls you after the 31 day period, you can report them:

https://www.donotcall.gov/Complain/ComplainCheck.aspx

Beyond this, you may want to try a TeleZapper to fool auto-dialers into thinking your phone number is disconnected:

http://www.telezapper.com/

If you don't want to buy the TeleZapper online, you may be able to find it at Radio Shack or some other retail store. It should provide you immediate relief while you wait for your telemarketers to note your phone number as filed on the Do Not Call Registry.

You can also tell the telemarketer to remove you from their marketing list. They are supposed to honor such requests. Be sure to get the name of the telemarketing company, the representative calling you and noting your Do Not Call Request and the product they are trying to sell. Keep this log close to your phone and when you notice a telemarketer calling you after you requested that they stop, report them to the FTC (http://www.ftc.gov/) and your state's attorney general's office (http://www.naag.org/).

It may require a little effort on your end, but the sound of your phone not ringing will be music to your ears.

Go to the website below.

The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free. Your registration will be effective for five years.
