No. Sometimes people write books to let out feelings(like published diaries) or to inform people about something. Some people just write them for fun! I would love to make a living offf of writing books!

I think you might be oversimplifying the criticism. Granted, making a little money is an ancient motive for writers of all sorts and is not in itself a character flaw. I think the criticism is that she engages in name-calling, deliberately mischaracterizes those she disagrees with and their opinions, and whips up division among Americans on matters of politics. Unlike such bad sportsmanship on other subjects (e.g., baseball or Hollywood), politics really is serious business, and the best Americans in our history have always sought unity rather than division. No one but Ms. Coulter can know whether she really believes what she writes, but she certainly must know that a book-full of such cargo in an election year is bound to appeal to a sizable part of our people, who have cultivated an appetite for angry name-calling on political themes. I think it's the fact that she would deliberately incite division on important issues in times that call for unity that calls her motives into question. I suppose calling her mercenary and greedy is a little bit better than suggesting that she has something against America and wants to encourage hostility among its people. Maybe it's an unwillingness to get as carried away as she does that leads people to accuse her of the lesser sin of greed.

I actually think there are much better things to get upset about, if someone wants to get upset, so maybe I'm with you on wondering why this would matter to anyone.

Some books, by the way, are written for the ideas. Not most maybe, but some.

Yes and No. Life is more than money. Yes many of us make money as the idol, but if you could overcome that then you would be one up against the rest. There could be other objectives especially when one write a book. It could be an experience to sure.
