Probably an amount so small as to be barely noticeable. Most cars are idling at the same speed when they're fully braked - check your tachometer.

The easiest way to save gas is to drive slower. For every 5 MPH you drive over 60 MPH, your car loses about 6 to 7% gas efficiency. Most cars burn gas most efficiently at speeds below 60 MPH.

I was inclined to say yes.The amount of savings really doesn't matter because it's still savings. The other benefits are better as the wear and tear on the car over a long time can be significant. I checked many sources and all said about the same as this one I reference below... "Automatic transmissions should be allowed to cool down when your car is idling at a standstill, e.g. railroad crossings, long traffic lights, etc. Place shifter into neutral or park position. This reduces transmission strain and allows transmission to cool."
Note:Neutral or park are going to yield the same results from the fuel savings or wear standpoint and "park" is safer when in traffic for obvious reasons.Oh and about the other readers remark about getting rear ended.... well if they are gonna hit ya-then the only difference in park is that you wont roll away from the impact as you would in drive.Of course if you saw them coming in the mirror I suppose you could floor it and jump ahead into the cars in front of you and really make a mess of things. I'd rather play the odds and save some gas.

No, but if u wont to save u should not fill your tank completely, if u do it takes energy to move that extra weight(extra gas), so if u dont fill it all the way up(say half a tank if u can make it that far) then it will therefore save u money!!!

And also, there is a cellphone program that u put in ur zip code or town name and it tells u which station has the lowest prices, its about $1-2 a month i think!!!

HOPE This helps a little cause when im old enough to drive itll be up to $5 per gallon!!!

sure, yet is purely approximately insignificant... yet once you sense it particularly is robust adequate so you might maintain saving gas properly thats basically some better tiny help. whilst the vehicle is at halt on force the engine does a splash better artwork because of the fact is conserving the revs at around 750 (that's popular or on the element of in purely approximately any street vehicle, excepting hi revs vehicles) with some opposite tension (hence the brakes). the proper situation you're able to do to shop gas is to coach on the a/c at the same time with your living house windows closed whilst over 35MPH and utilising the living house windows below that velocity. additionally preserving a important velocity in any respect circumstances will shop you better than you will think of. attempt accelerating slow and gentle and force a 4 cylinder engine instead of the V6 or V8.

It will save a very tiny amount as it takes a bit of load off the engine, but the biggest saving is the wear on the transmission as it is not trying to drive against the brakes.

You made me think of another question - does putting your car in neutral when coasting down a hill save fuel? When you put your car in neutral is the engine using gas?

Of course not, think about it! When your cars in park, it's idles faster than if you leave it in drive, therefore, the more its idiling or reving the more fuel, gas or diesel it uses! Anyway what would I know, I drive a manual.

No unless you turn your car off. As long as the engine is running it will use as much gas when your foot is on the brake or not.
