You can, but you'd be taking an unnecessary step. Just connect the output of your stereo or tape player to the line-in on your computer, and use a free audio program like Audacity to record directly from the tape. You can save the audio as a WAV file, which can be converted to MP3 or AAC in iTunes. There's no need to put these tracks onto a CD first.

Probably. It would work the same as recording old records- they need to be put onto your computer (using a line-in) and recorded using special software. From there, you just need to make breaks between the tracks (some software does this for you) and name the tracks. Then it is ipod ready....

Yes. I paid for a program on my computer that allows me to record and burn to a CD. I had to connect my cassette component of my stereo system to the computer but it was an easy deal. Check out this web site.

sure but there might be some quality problems. There is probably a device in which you can record from tapes directly into mp3 format. and you can use this device to make life easier. Otherwise your method is also ok.
