I already have the picture of my new avatar but what do I do so it shows up as my avatar instead of the one I have now?

Make all your changes so the avatar is how u want it and then click the "Save Changes" button.

You may just need to wait. Sometimes it takes a couple of days for the Avatar site to update your Answers profile.
