I am a professional singer... and I teach singing.

I've sung everything from barbershop and gospel quartets, to lead singing in a rock band, and now sing classical music, including opera.

Much of what people say above me here is correct... including the stuff about knowing people...

But, I question you're motives by the way you ask the question. Do you want fame? Or do you want to be great? Sometimes they are the same, but I think if you become great, you must find *your voice* and make it flawless and durable... Do *not* be one of the million copy-cat morons who pass for singers nowadays... Fame can last a week, but great singers are always working to be better...

Study how Frank Sinatra lasted so long... and Tony Benett... it wasn't because they liked being famous, and they weren 't just "born with it." That's all the hints I'll give you...

Good luck... though luck usually favors the prepared...

To learn how to sing the best thing is always following a good course, I suggest an online course because it's much cheaper and you can get great results. I suggest to follow this course ( http://learnhowtosing.kyma.info ) it's perfect for beginners and for high level singers. However there are several key things to do to improve your singing voice, yet some rely on upon your gender and some don't. Since I don't have a clue about your gender, I'll let you know the ones that are not gender particular. I'll give you some suggestions but I reccomend to follow the course that I posted above...I did it and I know you will apprecciate it! Learn to breathe from your diaphragm, not your lungs. - most straightforward route for a beinging voice understudy to learn this strategy is to lie level on your back and breathe without considering it. You ought to perceive that it is your stomach climbing and down, not your lungs. Congrats, you've spotted your diaphragm. Presently remained up and practice breathing through your nose and pushing the air into your stomach rather than your lungs. You can practice breath/breathing strategies. When you've figured out how to breathe with your diaphragm, you have to show yourself how to work those muscles in a manner that will improve your singing vocals. This is accomplished by something many refer to as breath exercises. Fundamentally, you use five to ten minutes doing these before endeavoring to sing. Here are some to kick you off: "the pregnant woman puff" is where you utilize the labor breathing method taught in lamas' classes to work your mouth muscles. "the straw" is where you suck in all the air you can oversee and afterward gradually release it again on your own pace while switching up the variations of the breath release. For a better work out in this exercise you can really sing a few bars of a tune also.

You have to start out as a low club singer or something. Sing at bars as a job and work your way up. That's the most logical way to do it because your not always going to be able to make it on American Idle like some people are saying.
You could possibly look for an agent in the phonebook or Yellowbook (same thing) and have him set up some jobs for you but be prepared to work a job on the side in case your gigs don't take off.
If your lucky enough though (I wouldn't get your hopes up) if American Idle does come by your city go for it. But don't go traveling half-way across the country to go to an American Idle audition.
Also stay on top in the job section in the newspapers because a really nice nightclub or someplace like that (you never know!) Could possibly be looking for a singer.

Good luck, and keep on following your dreams!!

You just need a combination of things. If you sing ok...then you better be HOTT. If you sing GREAT then you still better look ok.
Image is 75% of what gets you signed. 25% is talent. Ok...now for the real serious advice. GET A LOCAL reputation. Sing at talent shows, weddings...anywhere that will let you perform. Get a local producer that will take you national. This plan works but you have to live in a 1st or 2nd tier major city. This is the most realistic plan I could give ya!!

It's very possible to learn to sing well. You just need to know the right methods. Learn here https://bitly.im/aL9Zq

Singing teachers will cost money and can be expensive so they're not for everyone. Singing can be learned so it's not an "either you have it or you don't" kind of thing.

Whether you sound like crap or you're decent, I recommend this singing course. It's one of the best methods to learn to sing well in a short amount of time. It's all about using efficient techniques that work.
