In the I.T. world there are a lot of citizens from Bangalore, India working abroad; but someone told me that this topic of caste is sensitive and not to be discussed, is this true?

yes it is very sensitive people do get offended but the truth is people in Indian villages are living segregated as per their caste
you can identify when you walk in a village that u r in a area belongs to a particular caste.
in cities that is not the case but birds of same feather flock together

i think it's the fact that the caste question is tooooo old fashioned now. it's like asking someone, "are you ugly". what answer would you expect? it's the same with castes... what does it matter? you're in IT, you're supposed to be advanced, you know... not held up in narrow-minded segragating topics like castes. move on!

the caste system relegates you to a certain state without ever having the chance to move up. would you want to be asked, knowing that your answer would color someone's idea of you without even knowing you.

In simple words, you should not ask.

Practical results of asking would be:

- It won't serve any of your purpose.
- You may loose respect by going too personal.
- You may get a rude answer, which may hurt you.

u can ask if u r close enough. its not that much sensitive as much as it used to be.
