I spend most of my time alone. Physically it's made a little difference because I don't feel I have to sweat it at the gym any more just to look at good as the next person at work or in the pool. Mentally I feel more relaxed and at peace with myself because I no longer have to get involved in office politics, keeping up with the Joneses, petty disputes over car parking spaces or whose grandchildren are the most intelligent. On the whole I'm told it's made me a nicer, more agreeable, calmer person. I speak to myself, my cats and my dog quite a lot and my lovely neighbours accept I'm the dotty old 'un next door. I also have time to learn much more by using the internet (for my own pleasure I'm teaching myself another language, and how to build a web page and a blog). So yes, it can affect you mentally and physically, in my experience in a good way.

I like spending time alone. But then again I have 4 kids so go figure. Seriously though I was always a bit of a loner as a kid, coming from a broken home and all, so was used to being on my own. I guess I came to like it as I got older. When I divorced from my first wife I had custody of our kids and so spent 7 years or so as a stay at home Dad which was sometimes pretty lonely but I think it made me a little selfish as I was the only adult in the house and could do what I liked and had no one to answer to. I have to say as a kid though that I think being a loner did affect my self development a bit and I tend to be a bit introvert as a result so I would say it's more likely to affect a person mentally than physically although you're more apt to let yourself go physically if you spent a lot of time alone and I think your self discpline will probably suffer as well.
Even now though I crave a lot more time on my own than I currently get (thats not to say I don't love my family and enjoy being with them though) as I like to think on things a lot.

Hi,
I enjoy being alone most of the time. But if you're normally someone who enjoy company, then it might not be a natural part of yourself. In this respect, spending too much time alone may make you feel closed in, leading to a depressed mood. Physically, because you're spending so much time cooped in, you might not feel motivated to exercise, or may binge eat due to the loneliness. However, if like me, you enjoy doing your own thing, be it outdoors or indoors, it can be a rewarding experience. Imagine being able to go places you want to go, go to the galleries, watch plays, jogging, swimming, the beach just to stare at the sea, all without having to take into account what the people around want to do! To me, it's exceptionally liberating.
Cheers.

In absolutly EVERY way possible. A person is meant to be socialized, its just our nature, muck like dogs get depressed when left alone. Being alone for long periods of time, or always for that matter for months or years, would definatly cause someone to become depressed.....which manifests itself phyically in the body in many ways.
Unexplained pain, headaches, weakness etc.....its crazy what depression can do to the body :(

Yes. Spending time alone allows you to find inner peace and to know your true self better. Physically you will be motivated to improve your health as you have lots of time to stare at yourself naked in the mirror.

yea thats what creates a recluse a person who after awhile dissappears from society altogether and eventually goes nuts. humans need other humans touch and togetherness why do you think god didnt just leave adam by himself. the longer this continues the worse you will get. force yourself to get out even if its something small like going to get a coke just try and seek professional help.

aside from the many books around and the Bible itself, man is not destined to be alone. why?
because humans first and foremost have thoughts. they have emotions. they have ambitions. they have feelings.
what else to do if one is alone?
he will not grow as a person. he won't be able to adapt to the many stimuli around him since his experience is only limited to experiences with himself alone.
physically it would also take its toll. sharing laughter with other people is way way better than doing a sit-up exercise alone.
when one is with other people and HAPPY with them, the emotional warmth experienced will also make the body healthy as ever.
