In 1893, the United States Supreme Court ruled the tomato was a "vegetable" and therefore subject to import taxes. The suit was brought by a consortium of growers who wanted it declared a vegetable to protect U.S. crop development and prices. Fruits, at that time, were not subjected to import taxes and foreign countries could flood the market with lower priced produce. (A hundred years really hasn't changed anything.)

I evaluate it a veggie because when I cook dinner, I combine it with different vegetables. i keep in mind that i'm incorrect. I trust others that printed with regard to the topic matters of the seeds causing it to belong to the fruit relations. i imagine that I once examine (or heard) that tomatoes are area of the berry relations, no longer by way of style or seems, yet because they arrive from a vine or shrub, as adversarial to how the final public of alternative culmination come from bushes. It replaced into some thing alongside those strains that made it area of the fruit/ berry relations. besides, i imagine a lot of people verify with tomatoes as vegetables and evaluate them to be so. It does could do with the very incontrovertible truth that they don't look to be sweet like maximum different culmination are. i'd also like you to keep in mind that there is likewise a veggie that's usually seen as a fruit, called rhubarb. It grows like and resembles celery, besides the indisputable fact that the stalks are red to deep crimson instead of eco-friendly. when you consider that a lot of people would purchase it already chopped and frozen, and are not conscious the way it seems total, and they take it to be fruit. at the same time as rhubarb is cooked or baked and prepared properly, that is style turns into sweet. Rhubarb is utilized in many dessert recipes, like for making pies, etc. and yet that's a vegetable! wish you got here upon this information. sensible!

Technically a fruit but eaten like a vegetable. It is thought to be a fruit because it has seeds. As are cucumbers, squash, watermelon and eggplant. Not much left for a vegetable other than lettuce, broccoli ,brussel sprouts, corn and potatoes. So where do beans and peas fit? The have beans inside them that we plant as seed next year. Hmmmm.
