I just want to know where this term come from. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Formerly, mooning was slang for "wandering idly" and "romantically pining".
Mooning is the act of displaying one's bare buttocks by lowering the back side of one's trousers and underpants, usually without exposing the genitals. Mooning is used in some cultures to express protest, scorn, disrespect, or provocation. It can also be done for shock value or fun.

It's probably because the guy that mooned the person who named it had a giant mole on his butt that looked like a crater on the moon...hmmm...

Probably because the moon is round and naked so when you take your clothes off you be naked and your *** is round. I don't know i use to think about this too.

all the others r wrong !the moon sumtyms shows a reflection of light. the light makes a crak on the moon & maks it look like a butt crack ! ha, somekinki dude saw it & said hay its a butt crak, then he mooned the people & told them wat he did . that frase has been used since
