I do. I was 11 years old when he ran in '72, that was the first election I remember. Against George McGovern and Sargent Shriver.

He also ran in 1968, when he defeated Hubert Humphrey...I believe Bobby Kennedy would have won if he had lived.

But his first election was against John F. Kennedy in 1960. This was one of the closest election in US history, with the popular vote going to Kennedy by .02% percent or 118,500 votes our of some 68,350,000 votes cast. The electoral vote wasn't that close, with Kennedy winning by 302 ~ 219.

But in reality, the Kennedy family probably stole that election....

Ummmmmmmmmmm WELL now, I'm taking this question in a different way than the previous answerers and it's going to date me, but........
Yes, I remember the depressing year that Nixon ran for President, and the second time too. The first time was bad enough - the second was a horror with Watergate and all that mess. I was holding a "MCGOVERN" for President sign when Nixon's motorcade came through my hometown and the Secret Service guys were giving me the hairy eyeball. The only President I've ever seen in person was one of the worst. Ick.

Not stupid at all. The first time was 1960. He lost to John Kennedy. Second time was 1968. He won. Third and final time was 1972. He resigned in 1974

I wan't old enough to vote in 1960, but I remember people predicted that JFK would end freedom of religion and make the USA a Roman Catholic theocracy.

I also remember a bumper on my first car, a rusty old Dodge Dart. "In '68, Nixon was The One! -- In '72 he'll be a bigger one."

Best car I ever had.

Yes, though I was a child. I do remember watching that debate between JFK and Tricky Dick. I remember that all of my Catholic friends were wearing Kennedy buttons, and my parents would not allow me to wear one. It was 1960---then again, in about 1969 after LBJ served out Kennedy's term, and his own.
