" I know you are here to kill me.
Shoot, coward, you are only going to kill a man."

Nope, it is only possible to be courageous (which means to press on despite being afraid.)

I fear:
1. Standing on the Glass Floor at the CN Tower
2. Pain
3. The end of the Republican party

But if it helps your decidedly abstract question, I believe that fear is the opposite of love. There are really only two emotions in the world: fear (often masquerading as anger -- which is fear that something will or won't happen, frustration -- the same, jealousy -- fear that you're not good enough, etc, etc) and love. So, I guess the way to overcome fear would be to love the thing you fear.

But fat chance of that: I won't be hugging that damned Glass Floor any time soon.

No matter how rough and tough someone might be, there is something that every person is afraid of--even if it's fear of being raped in jail--or fear of losing a job--there's always at least one thing!

People overcome fears by reading, getting counseling, joining a self-help group, hypnotism, whatever they need to do--if they really want to get over it.

No, I don't think we (as the planet earth) could exist without fear, because no one would think anything about what they were doing.

I believe that you can best defeat fear by confronting it. For some it takes a single effort for others it may take repeated attempts. If you survive the experience you train your brain to dispel the inherent fallacy of all fear. Fear is indeed the only enemy and yes we can conquer it.

P.S. - I just have to add a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt (yeah, she was pretty smart too, but I can't remember it exactly so I'm paraphrasing)

You gain strength, wisdom and courage from every experience in which you have to stop and look fear in the eye. You must do the thing which you think that you cannot do.

No. It is not possible. I fear myself and everything at some point. Overcome your fears with alcohol. Unless youre pregnant. Then you take an approved medication. I dont know- I might be lost if I had no fear!! I fear losing fear! and gaining more fear. Look what youve started.

Fear, at its most basic level, is a physiological response to a threat. With experience one can overcome fear but never be without fear. Fear is not neccessarily bad; the physiolgical response gives a person extra energy, better circulation, sharper senses. One should embrace fear, not fear it (so-to-speak).

I still fear public speaking even though I'm told it's my greatest talent (and one for which I am paid substantially).

If you're on the right drugs or insane, otherwise that crap is movie fodder. Fear is a good thing, it's kept you alive so far, has it not? ;) But anything in excess is bad, as they say. So a little fear = weeeee, too much fear = let me out of this straight jacket, the little green men are after meeeeeeee.
Overcoming your fears- you have to simply confront them. You're afraid of water, get in the water.

Yes, you can overcome fear by confronting it head on. We can exist without fear because of what we believe in our hearts.

I just wonder if while it would be possible, would it also be foolish? I think fear can be healthy as long as it isnt crippling. Fear can make us stronger, wiser, more alert, better character assessors....and there are many other benefits..... But I have said before....I may be crazy. :)

I am afraid that my peanut butter sandwhich is gonna eat me when there is too much Jam on it and it is dripping out like alien blood where I bit it....

No I am just joking. Really I fear certain outbreaks of viruses....like West Nile in mosquitos and others that are deadly. I am afraid to have sex with anyone for a number of reasons. I would like to over come that OF COURSE DUHHHH! I remember how fun it was, but men frighten me.... so yeah there are rational and irrational fears...but dont let them rule your existance or you may miss out on your Destiny.

" The only thing we have to fear is fear itself " That famous quote by Franklin Roosevelt pretty much is self-explanatory.
No place is safe anymore. While fear has a global impact, it's also personal. Everyone experiences fear in one form or another throughout life. Fear wears many faces, worries, anxieties, that knot in the pit of your stomach. In this world filled with so many dangers and uncertainties, we cannot escape fear. Fear can help us also, to live wisely and safely in a dangerous world. Therefore, fear is basic to our existence, we have to learn how to deal with it. In order to deal with fear, we cannot cover it up or rationalize it or pretend it doesn't exist. These strategies will only intensify it. We need to face fear and know it for what it is and we have to learn from it to empower us with a way to deal with it.
Hope this is helpful.

Some people are born with or have head injuries that cause an absolute lack of any emotion. They try to hide it and have to look at other people to see what face then should be making during conversations. I saw a documentary, once.

I'm afraid of driving in reverse. Anything to do with backing up my car. I've never hit anything and there's no reason for it.

I just start shaking and sweating and breathing too fast. And my foot almost shakes right off the pedal. I hate reverse.

Otherwise, I'm an okay driver.
