A child who has been molested and has contracted AIDS from the perp.

Gang Rape

Beautiful things move me, particularly when I am alone, I feel they burn my eyes and I cannot stand them anymore (just for a second) because I have no adult companion to share them with, and then my daughter takes my hand in her small soft grasp....and then I am all better. :)

Diamonds are Forever commercials used to make me cry. Weird huh?

At one point in my career I had to assist at autopsies, and I was always somewhat disturbed by those which had to be performed on children, in particular those where the deceased's age was from 4 to 12... I guess it may have something to do with someone losing their life at the threshold of some of life's truly wondrous experiences...

Oddly enough, I just used the word 'poignant' in an answer I gave just a little while ago (a question about Father's Day...); some of the answers given by those who had lost their fathers were quite touching...

I am moved by people who continue despite their inevitable demise. Victims of cancer, people with unpopular opinions, even guys who ask girls out who have no chance of getting a date.

Loud and arrogant people wrench my gut because no amount of convincing will make them realize what an *** they are.

Poignant: How do we come to terms with our own mortality? In a way, I am moved by anyone who continues living despite the fact that they will eventually die.

One thing that is poignant to me is... well really, I don't know. I change a lot often. But this change points to a truer me. I have reacted to my sin. That made me try to follow Jesus. Made me believe there were other solutions like having a girl... But all those decisions forced a reaction on others toward me. Believing in God... Jesus really died in the Cross. He needed Judas to betray Him. He accepted the Will of God. What was poignant to Him was the love to Humankind that fell since Adan and Eve... He believed in His Father when He died... Jesus thought His father abandoned Him. Then, He Screamed loudly and died... And you know the rest of the Story. But Jesus was not killed: He screamed and willfully died (The two bandits beside Him didn't offer their souls: they were killed, compared to Jesus death) I wish helping others makes me react. But I'm educated and I filer every thing through morals... I guess what is poignant to me is fear: I don't want to disturb the public order. But maybe I'll react... in a normal way...

Victorian memento mori. It was the custom in the 19th century to take pictures with dead relatives before the funeral. Many children died at a young age in that era, and I find these pictures both poignant and moving.

The scene in an Affair to Remember, where Nicky visits his grandmother, and she gives Deborah Kerr her shawl, and then they play the theme, An Affair to Remember. It is touching in a human sense, and lives long after the movie is over become it touches the human emotions of love and caring, and identifying with someone else, and sharing the emotion of sympathy because her life is winding down. This is one of the great scenes in modern movies.

Picasso's Geurnica

I bought a print of that painting when I was 17. It was one of the first pieces of art that I ever bought for myself. I didn't even know who Picasso was or that it was a famous painting. It just moved me. I didn't even really know that it was an homage to the cruelty and sadness of war. I didn't know that it was inspired by the tragic events of the often forgotten Spanish civil war. It just moved me, and it still does 25 years later.
