because we the americans have an attention span this --------- long. as long as we vote like we do....we need to throw out all the lifetime goverment babies and start new. As long as we continue to drive like we do and pay ....its not going to change... we need to stick together as one {which will never happen, and they know it} we cant even stick together, with out the communist ACLU breaking us apart...as for the price gouging that is supposedly going on every week......how does the price of gas jump up 10-15 cents on the weekends. To say its the right of the company is b__sh__. its price gouging when you buy a piece of lumber in the northern state and sell it after hurricane down south for a profit. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?

I'm from Scotland and ask the same question every day we are now paying over £1 per litre which is about $1.62 per litre but every quarter the oil company's say they are making 100 billion doller profits ,but its all someone else to blame because someone else put the price of a barrel up but surely if you are making millions in profit you can sustain some of this . In Scotland 2 years ago truckers barricaded in oil refinery's so nothing could get out and companys like bp and esso panicked after a couple of days and put prices down ,now were talking about doing it again maybe this should happen in every country then they would soon learn they need the consumer to buy ,because if say everyone in America did not buy fuel for say 3 days they would lose something like 25 million dollars a day so work it out

The people elected the corrupt leaders.
But you are correct, because the oil/gas companies are making record breaking profits. I don't think people read the papers or listen to the news to understand how to put 2 and 2 together. Gas is through the roof but... they are making record breaking profits.
It may just be me, but I see a connection.
It's hurting everyone but the middle and lower classes are the ones that don't have a connection. Our feelings may change if we were taking home hundreds of thousands of dollars in bonuses, but most politcal leaders are greedy and corrupt but the American people put them there.

So park your car. Stop using 5 gallons a day of their overpriced low-quality crap. Ask for paper instead of plastic. Buy second-hand. Don't buy imports. Stand outside your local gas station with a picket sign. Or by the freeway on-ramp, encouraging people to slow down. Drive a smaller car. air up your tires.
Put a big 'THIS ADMINISTRATION SUCKS BALLS! EXXON, YOU TOO!' bumpersticker on the back of your car. Or, on a t-shirt. Don't get run over, though, and don't be surprised if the police dept. finds some kind of 'excuse' to hassle you...can't have people expressing themselves, that just starts trouble...

We (Americans) allow oil companies to collect profits because we endure a capitalistic economy. Our government is not doing anything about it because our Constitution indicates our freedom to do so. To take that freedom away from oil companies would be taking freedom away from ourselves. Maybe you should consider directing your attention to political conglomerates such as OPEC. They are the ones who set prices on the barrels of crude oil we purchase from middle eastern countries. From what I understand of OPEC, they can and do set prices at whatever they choose.

If you do not want to pay high prices for fuel maybe you should watch the HBO documentary 'Too Hot Too Handle'. The film shows you numerous ways to save the environment and save money. Not too mention that there are people in the U.S. already actively doing this. Get out of your car and do some research! Expand your mind!

Capitalism dude. If you don't like it, quit buying petroleum products (not just gas either, plastic, fertilizer, rubber) then the market supply will swell and prices will go down and they will make less money.

Didn't you learn supply/demand in like, 7th grade?

It's funny how people like to b**ch about $3.25 gas, but then they run out and buy some anyway.

Nice to see Fr. Chuck on here as the calm, foundation of sanity. I wish I could be so level-headed, but this stuff drives me crazy.

Thank God we are not a communist nation or a socialist state and we stlll have free interprise. And in all honesty, they are not making a large amount of profit, in percent form, they are only making a very small percent profit on the amount of money they spend to make that profit.

so it costs that much because it does, doctors, walmart, kroger all make a much larger percent profit. why are you not upset at all of them
