Cleaning the cookies and temp files is only the beginning. There are also, missing links, registry entries, programs running in the background and just plain old information. I have three suggestions to help speed things up.
1) Invest in an external hard drive to store information on, if your computer is slower than usual you may be building on information on the same drive that your system runs on.
2) Defragment your HDD, files sometime get mixed up and need to be put back in place, defragmenting will help with this.
3) Download a free program called CCleaner. with this program you can analyze your hard drive, fix some issues and will clean if you choose to have it clean, much better than you will be able to. The address is www.ccleaner.com

You should try defragmenting it by programs>Accessories>System Tools> Disk Defragmenter. It's different from cleaning out the disk, and it'll make your computer faster. Also, your computer may have a virus, spyware, adware, or a worm so you might want to use a scanner to get rid of them.

Try cleaning off the fan in the back. If you have a computer that runs all day like most people do, the fan will collect a large amount of dust and will not run as fast as it is designed to. If you give it a good cleaning it will run smoother and faster and allow your computer to run faster because it is cooler.

I would download (and use) Lavasoft's Ad-Aware Personal from http://www.lavasoft.com (it is free, at least to try). Another good product (also free, at least to try) is Spybot Search & Destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org/ . I would run first the Ad-Aware and then the Spybot S & D (no particular reason, that's just how I do it). These will remove adware and spyware from your computer. Both can slow your computer down a great deal. Hope that helps.

could be a lot of things, low memory, your C drive could be low on space, or like me, you may have some undetected viruses, trojans, and spyware that your computer may not have detected. Run a check on your computer to see if you can locate anything unusual or locate where in your computer the problem is. Go to the site below and it'll give your computer a thorough scanning...hope this helps.

Have you tried defrag?
If you run XP go to start > run and type this: dfrg.msc
Do it b4 you go to bed and close all other programs while it is running.
Another trick to try is this one (have your XP CD in the drive).
go to start > run and type this exactly: sfc /scanall
You can run some spyware program too. And do a virus scan.
