Where I work, no matter WHAT your review date, the raise does NOT go into effect until the last day of the year. My anni was Feb 2nd which entitles me to a raise, however I have to wait until this coming January to see it.

By this pattern, you'll see that the work I'm currently doing (although it will be reviewed on Feb 2, 2007) will not be compensated until Jan 2008! That's a two-year gap!

My goal is to change the policy by offering suggestions. So, what does your employer do?

At my employer, our reviews are all in March and raises are in April.

I have also had the raise and review on the anniversary date of the employee - but that is hard on the manager and on HR to have to be constantly updating people's information and writing those dreaded review's all year long instead of getting them all over with.

I have worked for still another company where everyone gets the same 3% raise every year on Jan 1 and, since everyone gets the same, the philosophy is that your raise is not tied to your review. Your review can be great or bad and you get 3%

We do the annual review and raises on the employee's anniversary date. I think it makes the most sense!

However the reality is that the review and raise happens after we hound the boss for 3-4 weeks, and he runs out of excuses for not doing it.
