I would probably try a CD/DVD scratch repair kit. If it actually works and can fix the plastic there, it should do a decent job on a toy vanity mirror. You can probably find this kind of kit in your local Wal-mart, K-mart, Target, etc.

A scratch on the front of the glass can be fixed that way. For example someone with a diamond ring hit the front of the mirror and did not make the scratch too deep. If the scratch is on the back of the mirror, it will appear as a black line, that cannot be fixed using an abrasive, as a matter of fact the scratch is caused because some of the silvering or the coating on the back is removed. Using an abrasive like toothpaste will make it worse. Inexperience is not dumb.

Most scratches can be buffed out with toothpaste. This includes your watch face. I put it on without water and rub a few times and the scratches are gone. Try on the side of the mirror incase on this it is not good but you can always have a new one cut.
