Walmart buys from many third word nations. And no it does not make me go hmmm, it is fairly commom knowledge that child labor, prison labor, slave labor and more is used in the manufactor of thier products. All sorts not just garments.
They will buy from the cheapest sourse, period, if you have made for them for years, they will drop you next day if they can save a few cents per garment.
Also don't forget that McDonalds "happy meal toy" think of some child chained to a work bench making it, the next time you see one sitting there.

Well, for one thing, Wal*Mart can and does contract for a garment manufacturer's entire production line. Most garments Wal*Mart sells are no longer made in the US. Wal*Mart also has the largest transportation and distribution system in the world. Their profit margin is very low but their volume is so high, it's hard to comprehend. There is no way a retailer, distributor or small manufacturer can compete. What appears to be an unfair advantage to producers is a tremendous advantage to customers.

i'd say small touristy shops that sell no longer something yet low-fee junk (Stuff toys, stupid shot glasses, section refrigerator magnets etc.) to vacationer. We purely back from holiday and after a 2 week seek we've been finally able to looking a hat made interior the U.S. maximum have been made in Indonesia, Malaysia, or China. To unmarried out a definite shop (like Wal-Mart) is incredibly naive as all shop that sell the comparable variety of merchandise purchase from the comparable agencies. Wal Mart, Kmart are all the comparable, even Macy’s sells regularly imported clothing, even though it’s tense to tell which imports are baby exertions.

Speaking of child labor, how about that Tommy Slavedriver? He cages his slaves in compounds, pays them approx. five cents a day and sells his TH bathrobes for three hundred bucks.
Here's another thing that will make you wonder.... Quaker Oats in the microwave packet $4.39 at Albertson's... Walmart "offbrand" microwave oats same size ( the only noticable difference is these taste better and have less salt and preservatives). Walmart price? $1.76.
No slave labor, just higher standards.
I was in retail for thirtyfive years and the quality a WalMart usually surpasses the upper end retail department stores.
Next time your at the mall check to see where most of their products are made... usually in a third world country too.

(They have to sell them cheap because their clothes are so ugly! I know, I'm not supposed to say the first thing that pops into my head.) OK, I'll start over. You make a good point. I never gave much thought to that, other than to think that they are being made in countries where these poor people are not making decent wages, and to hope that they are not working in poor, filthy conditions. Of course, sometimes that happens if you buy name brand designers too.

Some communities are starting to refuse to have a Wal-Mart 'big box' store in their area anymore. They've started to recognize that there's a downside to 'globalization' and 'combined buying power' and the rest of the sales slogans. Imports are OK, but if they result in de-facto slave labor camps, screw it, we can go back to making denim on our own shores. By the way, robots work cheap.

80% of goods in Wal-Mart are manufactured in China, where the labor laws and price of goods are quite different.
