Bad planning in 03.For some assinine reason our higher-ups thought all of Iraq would be out there tossing flowers and dancing in the streets of every city and village ala occupied Europe when the Allies went through following D-Day, they didin't have a contingency plan for the Baa'th party members and former Reuplican Guards and others who didn't want us there.
So they dispatched 150,000 troops instead of thrice the number needed to stabalize the country and get the Iraqis back on their feet.

1991 - Overkill. Make sure we could overwelm them with force. We probably didn't have enough confidence/knowledge of how good the Iraqis were. Invading a secured position almost always takes alot more forces to take ground. Who knew many/most would simply give up.
2003 - Advances in weapons, knew we could outgun them this time, War planning by Rummy that dictacted a smaller more mobile force.
Of course the 03 number was WAY WAY WAY too small. The intial but-kicking we gave them was the tip of the iceburg. We need(ed) way more to secure the country-- which we didn't. So, that plus other blunders has given us this mess.

Because in 1991 we found that the Requblican Guard was more like a girl scout troop and Saddam's "mother of all battles" was a cake walk. We just didn't need half a million troops to kick the dictator's butt out of office and into a rat hole.

In addition to the overkill on the world re-nown 90 day war, you have to remember that Kuwait was slightly smaller than Kern County California. Bushdaddy needed to get his ratings back up so this "War for Japan's Oil" was mostly a scam.
Little Shrub needed the Iraq war so people wouldn't keep talking about his stupidity. He milked the war to gain re-election and the RNC will ultimately use the "pullout" to try to boost their numbers in the next election.
Keep in mind that Iraq is slightly larger than California and shouldn't be confused with a real country. Hell, our armed forces could bring California down in a couple of days if old Uncle Shrub sent in enough of them.
So to make it brief (finally) it's all a con to keep us from paying attention to the real problems "Lil Shrub" has created. He'll keep whistlin' this tune till he leaves office.
Some people out here are taking bets that he'll try to stay for a third term without an election ( for our protection). I'm betting that he won't get away with crappin' on our Constitution this time.

to see how many can die.
The generals who thought out the attack expected the advanced warfare technologies they've had developed since then to do the job. Ie supersonic jets dropping laser guided gps tracked large payload bombs.
