If it's in Los Angeles or surrounding area, you better be bringing in a million dollars a year. But it depends on what kind of convertible you want, how nice of a house you want and how lavish your travel plans are. Unfortunately, all of California is rapidly becoming this way.

In Southern California you need to be making at least $150K to just get into a semi-decent house. A lot more if you want to travel and have a fancy car.

It depends on where you live - housing costs can vary quite a bit - but where I live, you're talking at least $60k. More, if you want to be able to eat and pay your utility bills.
