about 900 kb to 1.2 mb max

It all depends actually. If you are aware or not, format that you take could decisively affects the memory usage. For example, there's jpeg, tiff, and raw format. The raw format can take couple hundred megabytes to several where tiff would be less, and finally jpeg where depends on how much compression is applied.
