In the first round the system of play will be the league system, each team playing one match against each of the other teams in the same group, with three points for a win, one point for a draw and none for a defeat. The two teams coming first and second in each group qualify for the second round.

Rank
# The ranking of each team in each group will be determined as follows:
a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.

It's a point system per group... 3 pts for a win 1 pt for each team in a draw 0 pts for the losing team If 2 teams end up with the same number of points, "Goal Difference" (the number of goals scored- number of goals scored against you) is used to rank those teams. If two teams are tied on goal difference as well, it actually comes down to the toss of a coin to decide who moves on. Once we're out of the group stage however, a loss means automatic removal from the tournament. Thus, you'll start seeing games come down to penalty shootouts because a winner must be decided.

A win earns 3 points, a draw earns 1 point and loss no points.
If the teams are tied at the end of the round, they look at the goal differential which means they look at the number of goals the team has scored and how many they have conceded. The team with the higher goal diff will go through.

3 pts for a win
1 pt for a tie
0 points for a loss

In case of a "tie" between two teams a goal differential is used; the team that scored the most goals advances. If the number of goals is equal then PK's are considered. After that it gets really confusing.
