I've heard 2 months tops. Does that sound about right?

You should toss your mascara after 3 months, that is the universal timeframe.

Of course, if at anytime it starts to smell rancid, toss it.

The bacteria that collects inside the tube inside the mascara is the cause for its short shelf life. Every time you dip in & out, you are introducing these bacteria into the tube.

TIP: Instead of pumping in & out (which you should never do to keep those buggies away) TWIST the wand inside the tube back & forth, like you would turn & knob. This will help maintain your mascara safely for the duration of usage.

Well I am not sure why you cannot use it beyond it 6 months as I have never had a problem. I have heard anywhere from 3-12 months. I mean I got some as a sample about a year ago and started using it about 2 months ago and have had no problems at all with it. I think that make-up companies say these things to make us buy more of their product. As with everything I am sure that there are some horror stories about someone out there that used some old mascara that they went blind or something.

Unless you've foolishly shared it with a girl who had pink eye (or even a girl who didn't- mascara sharing is a bad idea) or left it in your car on a really hot or really cold day, it should be good for 6 months. Mascara companies suggest 2 months to cover their butts. If you feel like pushing the envelope, though, absolutely throw it out after a year. I know this- I did some research after getting an infection from some mascara that was about 2 years old.

in case you have not opened it yet then i imagine that it will be superb to apply it now. no longer so effective in case you could if it has expired and under no circumstances spread out yet. I under no circumstances opt to probability some thing with my eyes, so i'd only throw it out if it has expired in accordance to the equipment. besides the indisputable fact that that's only what i'd do ;) I heard that once you open up the tube so you might toss it after 3 months because the air will dry it out from once you employ it standard. also I heard that bacteria can advance in there and that is yet an extra reason about the three months toss. i'm no longer effective if that's real or no longer yet i have continuously executed that if I nevertheless have some left after 3 months. wish that I helped :)

If it hasn't been used about a year! But if you used it three months tops! I sell Mary Kay and that's what they tell us! Never ever share or let someone else use it! Also twist the brush out of the tube DON"T pump it in and out! That just allows more bacteria to get it! SO EVERY 3 months get a new tube!!

I have heard that anywhere from 2-4 months is okay. But I have also heard no more than 6 months, depending on the use.

Yep! About two months. And you had better toss out that puppy if anyone else has used it, or you get any eye irritations.

I've been known to keep my mascara up to 3 - 4 months. I know, I'm bad!
