I am going on vacation. I have some downloaded files which are of private nature and I do not want anybody to see them. I have a room mate who would be using my computer in my absence. I want to make sure that he can not see those files. Is there any way to remove those files permanently?

I don't know where you downloaded those files from, but if you don't even have an idea of the location folder in where they may are, then in Windows you can click start, search, search for any files and you can place for example *.mp3 to find any mp3 files you may have in your computer and so on.
You can burn those files in a CD, and delete them permanently from your computer, it's all up to you.

Create another user name for your roommate. If you want to delete file permanently then use SHIFT+DELETE key, files be deleted permanently and will not be shown in Recycle bin.

Hello,
Why not just have it password protected so your roommate cannot even get into your files at all.
