This fall I'll be entering Yale University as a freshmen. I'm very excited for this. I'll be able to learn so much about myself in the next four years. However, I want to slowly pull myself away from my parents. Dont get me wrong, i love them so much, they have supported me through everything so far. But now i feel like i should be able to experience things on my own. My mom and dad are doctors that work at the hospital. All my life ive been known as the "little rich kid". Since college is a fresh start, i dont want to be known as the "little rich kid" anymore. I want to see how far i can get without my parents money, with the exception of the school tuition. I dont want to hurt their feelings in the process either. How can i convince my parents to let me do this?

Most of your peers will be from the same economic background, so you shouldn't have to sweat being from a good family too. Don't worry about it and just be responsible with your spending and stuff. It's okay to come from a good background.

Yale...wow good for you....
It doesn't matter if anybody call you a rich kid or something anymore the important thing is what you are thinking about yourself?
you must appreciate what your parents have done so far for you and pray for their health and safety....
you must thanks them and ask them for their support in this situation by letting them now what are you feeling about the way they treat you with..and i am sure they will understand...because they want the best for their precious man...

1st you want to think your self lucky that you have had parents who have supported you and give you every thing you ever wanted. because theres a lot of guys out there that have had nothing but hard ship. but i can see by your words you are grateful for your parents for this. 1st do you want to leave before you go to university. i dont think youll be able to cope financialy. if i were you i would get uni done first then after you finished. branch of on your own. then i think your parents would understand more after you get your independancy. you got to think about this before you say any thing to your parents. you dont want them to cut you off. not before your time. good luck and hope you make the right decition

I think that yes you should just take the benefits that ur parents are giving you..which is the money for college because you will have the rest of your life to pay for things..but if you really want to do that then just tell them like you just wrote up above..if they don't understand then they never will and you'll still just have to do things on ur own..

you shouldn't , your parents worked very hard to make your life easier , there are millions of people that can only dream to be there . now your job is to take advantage of it and make your kids life easier and so on .

that said , you will no longer be considered the little rich kid in yale , you will fit in with other rich kids

Stop it!

Embrace the opportunity afforded by your parents wealth.

do your best and get the highest degree possible, then leverage your parent's relationships to get the best potential career possibilities.

That's not wrong - it's your ADVANTAGE.

Beyond that, whatever you get or accomplish will be because of your effort.

I wish I had been in your position at your age.

Tell them how you feel. You parents are there cause they care about you and if they care enough they understand how you feel and should not make you feel bad because you feel that way. Its your life darling. you need to live it how you wanna live it. Do what makes you happy. Your family should be happy that their child is now taking her own responsobility and is happy, Trust me i'ts your life. I will be o.k.
