It's due to the formation in your body of breakdown products (specifically, S-methyl thioacrylate and S-methyl 3-(methylthio)thiopropionate) of asparagusic acid, a unique compound found in asparagus.

Interestingly, not everyone has the ability to smell S-methyl thioacrylate and S-methyl 3-(methylthio)thiopropionate. There appears to be a genetic mutation that prevents some people from being able to smell these compounds.

That distinctive smell attracts fish. Next time you go fishing, eat some cooked asparagus and widdle in the water first.

I asked a urologist the same question once. It does and it is due to the chemicals in asparagus. You can get the same effect from garlic.
