I think it should be treated just like beer and unfortified wine are (in the US). Taxed, sure. Age-restricted. Available through retail stores (not ABC/state stores). Available in bars/pubs/etc. And, just like beer and wine, individuals should be allowed to produce up to a certain amount at home annually. DWI laws already cover driving offenses.
Oh, and revenues would roll in from production and sales. Some depressed economies would turn around and become boom economies. Tax revenues would be enormous. PLUS!!! We'd save billions on police, courts and jails by not arresting and jailing people for pot!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me started on this. Pot prohibitation is such a waste of resources. Not only pot, but all controlled substances. The war on drugs so far this year has cost us 23.5 billion dollars and resulted in 782 thousand arrests. That is an average of about 23000 per arrest. I'm sure we could off treatment to anyone who wanted it for that amount.

The line has to be drawn somewhere. Alcohol is unfortunately too entrenched in American culture to make it illegal (as prohibition showed.) However, marijuana still has a stigma attached to it that keeps most intelligent people from addicting themselves to it. Therefore, maintaining its illegal status and pushing for harsher and more comprehensive enforcement of the laws surrounding it can only help to protect the youth of America, too dumb to understand the repercussions of becoming involved in that drug.

Our economy would be greatly repaired if we legalized it and taxed it. I mean, what the hell, people are going to get it no matter if it's legal or not! So why not benefit from it? Why, because our government is a pathetic bastille of idiots!!! Personally, I don't smoke it, but I say, to each their own!
