From what I know, Japanese never had a notion of man=macho, as commonly popular and practiced in western societies. Japanese have always been interested in being clean, as the concept of taking bath existed and practiced. On contrast, the perfume was used widely by western countries because of absence in bathing, intially to cease the bodily odors and replacing it with more soothing scent.

The Japanese sense of beauty is slightly different from that of the western cultures, as being 'macho' for men are rarely accepted as Japanese practice, but rather more foreign, western concept resulting with the notion being alien. Instead Japanese viewed women as something precious, often times viewed as beautiful art and often referring to nature (ex. sakura, or cherry blossoms have symbolism to beauty of Japanese women, also can imply the short-lived beauty/glory) so associating what is 'beautiful' to feminine essence is only natural in Japan, as the entire culture and language is structured in that manner.

More evidence of the feminizing men in modern/contemporary Japan can be found at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9432914/ under the article "Feminization of Japanese men"

Naturally, female essence means that absence of facial hairs, skin being crystal clear (bihaku bijin 美白美人), and smell. In anime, these qualities are more exaggerated, to convey that character is being glorified, and more aesthetically pleasing (to Japanese) by feminizing the male character.

*Additionally it (feminizing men, boys looking like girls - from western society) is the product resulting from uniquely Japanese; racially, socially, culturally, and origin being (or claimed to be) homogenous that Japanese once accepts certain issue, it will be widely practiced. Results in lot of boys starting to dress/look like female IN Japan, not from being 'lazy' for not cutting hair. As matter of fact, before the war (WWII), Japanese boys/students are not allowed to have long hair, under strict hierarchical system, that men should be the one fighting for the country and die for it. After war Japanese have been freed of this strict military/nationalistic hierarchy and enabled mroe freedom on one's fashion.

Not all of them look like girls, some are really buff. As for the long hair, i think it looks good on them because it gives them a cool mystical look. What anime shows are you watching? Try watching Dragon Ball Z. I agree with asian angel 17992.
as for becker, stop stereotyping it is only cartoons, im guessing your ugly and can't grow nice hair.

Because they're drawn like that? Not all anime boys look like girls... only some are... and they are known as the bishies! They have quite a number of fangirls too.

properly, for the first section, that's about this style of anime. A straightforward face is almost a sharp upside-down egg. If the artist comes to a decision to keep it that way, it truly is going to look extra female with the sharp chin (the enormous eyes also artwork with this). In manga, if the artist is making an attempt to make a macho-guy, he may decrease off part of the chin to have that stony-confronted look. the second one section, i wager is merely genetics. Races have a tendency to each and each and every have similar genetic makeup, and the genes for facial sensible aspects are similar.
