Glasgow is extremely dangerous if you want to corner a slice of the heroin or licensed taxi trade. Otherwise it's fine. Enjoy your Erasmus - there's a lot of fun to be had in Glasgow. West End (Byres Road area, near Uni) is where the funky set likes to live but Merchant City is where they seem to drink.

Glasgow is dangerous to your health. The traffic exhaust and the cigarettes will kill you before any of the people do you harm. The people are wonderfully friendly! Just use the same common sense there that you use in your current town/city to stay safe. :) Congrats on your grant and have a great time! Scotland is a gorgeous country. Make sure to take time to travel north of Glasgow.

I love Glasgow. I stayed with a friend from Kelvin Bridge and everyone I met was so friendly. There are going to be dangerous areas in any city, just find out from the people who live there, where you should avoid.

Glasgow is violent yet on condition that you search for it or it unearths you . lease a flat in sturdy aspects, i`ll anticipate you be off the great western street as lot of scholars stay there and its no longer a strategies from uni . Edinburgh is 1/2 the inhabitants than glasgow and a lot less to do. Plus Edinburgh has a rep for being snobbish, so wonderful stay away from !

Glasgow is - i believe - no more or less dangerous than any other city although a few years ago there were scary headlines about our murder rate being higher than that of New York because of a local incident involving gang members who murdered each other and thus "skewing" the stats!
Glasgow is well known for being friendly to visitors and tourists as well as thousands of visiting students, so i hope you decide to come and study here and i truly hope you enjoy your stay.
In the 1960's Glasgow had a reputation for being tough and dangerous but like any major city it has grown away from that rep and has been awarded - at one time or another - both the European city of culture and the European city of Architecture.
It is beautiful, hospitable, multi-cultural, cosmopolitan and lively :)
the university you are going to is situated in one of the trendiest and prettiest areas of the city and i'm sure you'll enjoy your time here.
good luck with it...welcome to my home town and God Bless :)
