I read that you can put pennies into vinegar and this will clean them, but there were other ways to do this because it was a science project and quite fun, but I don't remember off hand and I don't have time to go through all the books I have to find it.

Vinegar and salt.
Fill a small bowl with vinegar and then add a couple teaspoons salt and drop your pennies in. They should start to shine in a few seconds. If not add more salt.

You can put pennies in lemon juice (lemonade) for awhile and later when you take them out it will shine.

there is a cleaner in a store called ka boom i am a coin collector and i personally use it you should try it too
PS: i restored a 110 yr old penny and it looks brand new

let them soak in coca-cola 4 a few days. this really works! i did the acidity in coke 4 my science fair project & cleanin' pennies wuz 1 of the many uses of coke. (& they proved it on myth busters)

oooo i did a science fair porject on this subject what best cleans pennies...mys tudy found that it was vinegar and i tried many things..i also heard to put it in cola ( i didnt test this one)..good luck.
