The united states is holding back funds because of the corruption and inactive programs the UN is tied to. Our funding has been wasted on corrupted programs that let the money get ripped of by the very administrators that run it. Look at the oil for food programs that misappropriated billions of dollars. Then the NR2 man in the UN insulted the US. The reason for the UN to have countries work together not to have those like France,Russia and China take payoffs to block the UN from righting the wrongs discovered.

The U.S. does pay some of their dues, but it does not pay all because the UN is a colassal waste of money. The U.N. was started to give all nations a equal voiuce, but it is now run by third world countries that are totally against everything that our country is founded on and stands for. There will never be a Secretary General from the United States or even from the U.K., Canada or Austrailia, or any other democratic nation on earth.

Why should we? All the UN does is waste it. The UN is such a joke, with their resolutions against everything and enforcement of nothing. They have NO power anywhere in the world without us, and we are never paid to deploy our troops. Name one thing the UN has done that was a success without our help. Stop the genocide in any African country? Feed the starving in Africa? Stop any war anywhere? Stop human rights abuses? They can't even administer the World bank without us, in fact, there wouldn't even be a UN without us. I say get the UN out of the USA, let them go to France or Switzerland or somewhere else and get rid of the corruption. Ever hear of the oil for food program? Worked well in Iraq, didn't it? We have paid our dues in the past and what has it brought us? More beggars wanting more of our money, more handouts. What about all the debt we, the USA, have forgiven since WW1, WW11 and so on............If we collected on every debt we have ever forgiven, most countries would be in bankrupcy.

Cuddles already gave a nearly perfect answer. Kudos to you for your insight.

The only point I want to add is that Bush insists that the UN finally create some processes so that money spent on aid can actually be accounted for. Whole books could be written about billions and billions just given to countries, and afterwards no one can say where the money went. Most goes to corrupt government officials in the recipient countries. A lot of the aid for the Tsunami relief can't be tracked. The money just disappears.

It's not a priority... the bill isn't going anywhere... They would rather put the money into Iraq and Terrorism. That way it appears to the UN that we are really doing something important with our money and what was once "power". ha ha.... ya know. The Bush Family is a legacy in our day and age, going down in history as the worst representative for our country.
We are a joke because they are a joke.

Because that money is being used to promote terror. We are VERY close to pulling out of the UN and taking all the other western countries with us. That will destroy the UN. Probably, that is a good thing.

The US pays for a large proportion of the UN's costs. The UN is a miserably ran, corrupt organization.

Who says the US won't pay it's dues. If not I can understand why. The UN is corrupt. Why should we. I wish we would pull out of that worthless organization anyhow.
