"The 13 1/2 lives of Captain Bluebear" by Walter Moers. A book so good it's the only one I ever immediately started re-reading as soon as I got to the end.
If you want something to just dip into now and again then "English as She Is Spoke: Being a Comprehensive Phrasebook of the English Language, Written by Men to Whom English Was Entirely Unknown" is absolutely hysterical - it's a phrasebook for Portuguese travellers to England, but the translations are more like something from that Monty Python "Hungarian Phrasebook" sketch.

Rape of the A.P.E. A book ridden about the development of society. Written in the 70's. I am sure it is long out of print, but look for it on eBay. Well worth the effort to get and read.
