It is possible for zebras to be trained and ridden. However, they do not act, move, or think like horses and can still be very dangerous because of their wild ancestry. They are NOT for the novice horseperson.

Some zebras have been trained to take a rider, but with limited success. They are very wild and also have much more sensitive backs than horses, making them prone to aches and pains, plus do not have the sort of temperament that domestic horses have which makes them unpredictable. They are not considered suitable for training purposes and, given the rare status of some species such as the Mountain Zebra, should not be used for such purpose.

Zebras are weaker than horses and would most likely collapse if you sat on them. I suppose you could put a saddle on it if you'd had it from very young, because zebras are wild animals and unlike horses have not been domesticated.

sure is, i rode one once years and years ago. and there is actually one that is broke and for sale in my area. if they are treated like a normal horse they are fine. keep in mind tho that there are more than one type of zebra, there is the mountain zebra, which is what i rode and are easier to handle, and the more popular african zebra. dont get me wrong, he was a handful, and required an expierienced rider, but was very gentel all around.

Yes, there are people who sell tame zebras, or zorses, which are horses and zebras bred. They would have to be trained like a horse.

It can be done, but it is very, very difficult. The only sure fire way to do this is to probably imprint train a foal zebra from birth. An adult zebra is going to be quite difficult to work with. But, I have seen it.

yup, they used an actual zebra in "Racing Stripes" for some scenes and not a painted up pony... From what I understand there are some breeds of zebra which can be broken to saddle or harness

whats ipod going on about wild animals are not meant to be pets. all animals were wild int he beginning its only because we have trained and tamed animals such as dogs we can keep them as pets. So yes if you trained a zebra from birth of course you could.

The Egyptians tried that with everything they could get their hands including the zebra 4000 years ago....they would first tie animals up and feed them. I did not work with the zebra it did not work with the hyena

It might be possible, but very hard. When people went to Africa to tame animals, they thought they would be able to tame elephants, but the elephants (and other animals they tried to tame) fought back, injuring many people. The people finally gave up and decided not to domesticate so many wild animals.
