First, power. Plug the power cord into an outlet that works. There will probably be a power light on the front that will glow orange or green when it's properly plugged in.
Next, look at the back of the DVD player. There will be a bunch of places to plug in cables. On the back of your TV, you will have another bunch of places to plug in cables. You have to figure out what choices your TV and DVD player have in common. You usually have a few choices:
RCA plugs: There will be three places to plug in RCA-type plugs, Red for Right Audio, White for Left Audio, and Yellow for Video. You would usually get one cable that has three plugs on each end.
Component Video: Also using a cable with three plugs on each end, the plug-ins will usually say Y, Pr, and Pb
S-Video: One cable, with a plug-in that is a small circle with a bunch of tiny holes in it. The cable itself has tiny pins to fit into the holes.
Digital Out: This is for audio, to send surround sound to your stereo/home theatre setup. One cable with either a plug that looks like an RCA plug, or an end with a small clear round bit to plug into a small hole.
Once you're plugged in, put in a disc and see what comes up on your TV. You will have to figure out on your TV how to set it to watch the DVD -- you'll have to choose AV or Video or something like that as the input. Your TV remote will probably have a button saying "Input" or "Input Select" which will run you through the different choices. Press it until you get the DVD picture. Enjoy!

With most DVD players, you take the yellow cord and put it in the yellow hole in the back (or front) of the tv, and so on with the red and the white one. It should work

find jack that should have 3 colored cables. Plug yellow into video, red and white to audio into DVD, then plug those 3 into your tv. (Usually av1 jacks) same thing yellow into video, red and white to audio. You can also use a "S" video jack if it's supplied , plug into DVD and TV in "S" video jack.
