Effect a Change. One person really does make a difference. Be a contributor to your community, educate yourself and educate others. Knowledge is power, and power is infectious. You must choose to be excellent in your choices and actions, and others, (your generation) will follow, it is the nature of cause and effect.
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virture or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit. -Aristotle
Let your life speak.... that is how your generation will thrive! I wish you well my friend!

Your fate will depend on your (not just you) ability to unite the masses. Your generation like every other generation will suffer at the hands of the few that control the economy until you unite and take that control from them.
When you say that your generation is 'taking over the workplace and government' you may have been misled. The workplace and the government have never been controlled by the many of which you are probably a part. they are controlled by a few (and they are not usually the ones you see). The politicians only do what those few want or allow them to do.
The only reasonable solution (one that does not initiate violence) to your anticipated problems is to unite and then own and control everything together by direct democratic means. Only then can the individual's rights to safety and happiness be protected.
I tried to unite the people and failed. I hope your generation succeeds. If you need a plan to start, my short book may help. It outlines a simple plan.

With little limits was the key in your statement.I know you meant corporations making profits without almost any limit or cap. But the key is your generation is a generation of little limits and what limits or boundaries still imposed are slowly eroding and being chewed away at like little rats on chewing on a piece of gypsum board.
Irregardless of the legacies any prior generation leaves to you, it is your generation that uses at phenomenal rates without consideration of putting anything back in,instant gratification, and no moral boundaries are the prominent features. The issues are not the corporations, because your generation will be the ones running them in just a few years, the issue is will there be enough of you willing to do what it takes to stop the downward spiral that will inevitably be the ruin of yours or some other future generation . If something is not done to re establish the moral and ethical standards that made the United States the most powerful nation the free world has ever known, soon enough the anything goes and its all about me attitude will bring the world as you know it to its ruin.

Yours is not the first target generation. Lee invented the Ford Mustang right at the fattest part of all generations and now the medical community is cashing in on those same folks. Remember, corporations may want to make a profit off off you but they know that they must please you or that profit could be their debt. Generation Y has the most exciting future of almost all generations what with technology and medical advancements we are witnessing today. The best way for your generation to hit this great new future is with a killer education. No one should leave home in America with anything less than a Bachelors degree. Good luck with the future. Wish I could be there.

Could be you'll all be your OWN boss! It works both ways you know. Why look at it that corporations can take advantage of you and use your generation? You can do the same - and many are. You can job hop and keep your employer on his toes - if you're good, they won't want to lose you - the bargaining power is then in your hands. Look for the silver lining in your "clouds"... you'd be surprised just how great your gen can have it that previous generations couldn't.
Your generation is more aware of quality of life and balance issues - you're more likely to really enjoy your life and get more out of it and not work 99% of your life and need a postcard from your family so you don't forget what they look like!
You have soooo much to look forward to - please don't look ahead with fear. You can be your own boss - you can work as a contractor who has many different talents so is never out of work.
I personally think your gen will do just fine and the world will be a better place because even if you don't know what you should be doing, you definitely know what NOT to do!

Your suffering from what I call temporal relativity.
In other words, your generation is not essentially worse off than any other. You're just too locked into your present world to realize it. In fact, you are one of the most affluent and privaleged generations ever.
For example, it was only a few generations ago that the weekend was even invented. For thousands of years, in hundreds of cultures, most people worked seven days a week from the age of 10 or 11, until they died of old age at 40. And they were paid (or farmed) in a day's worth of food if they were lucky. That's it. And they rarely, if ever, travelled more than a days walk from home.
You get to experience more culture, more leisure, more comfort, more choices, more knowledge, more health, more . . .life than virtually any of the billions of human population that preceded you, including your parents. And you think modern corporations have somehow robbed you of your god-given liberty for their personal gain. This while you ignore the safety of other drivers while you talk on the cell phone, ignore your friends at dinner while you TM on your blackberrys, and complain about unhealthy foods even as you choose to buy them. Put your IPOD back into your ear, microwave some popcorn, check your E-mail, and quit whining about how bad off your generation is. In fact, go thank your parents for what you have. Seriously.

We'll be the same bankrupt nation we are now and have been for a while. Your generation is no more selfish or hedonistic than any before it, no matter what the Gen-Xers and Baby Boomers try to tell you (I'm a Boomer). Every generation of young people has had the same concerns for their futures, and we've all survived somehow. There will economic peaks and valleys, times of plenty and recession, and good and bad seeds. Don't sell yourselves short.

I think that our generation will be in some trouble. We are not saving any money as a whole and I think that we for the most part will not be able to retire at a young age. Jobs are being outsourced so much in this day and age people will reallly have to do work that is intellectual. India, china and mexico will take our labor jobs. I think our economy will change a lot.

You'll have lots of crap to clean up thanks to the Baby Boom Generation.
- Trillions of dollars in debt
- Global Warming
- Energy Crisis
- Economic Disasters
- Waning U.S. Global power
On the plus side, you'll have Gen X to help you clean it up before you guys really hit your 60's. Until then, life's gonna be tough.
My recommendation when you are an adult:
A) Never rely on one source of income
B) Become as financially smart as possible
C) Think about what effect your actions have on future generations.
D) Get politically active with groups that promote a sound and healthy America
We're gonna get the sh!t sandwich from the Baby Boomers, and they aren't going to go out quietly or cleanly. Hopefully there's an old hippie left who actually thinks about the future generations.
Maybe they'll remember all the liberal crap they chanted about in the 60's and stop voting for guys like Bush and Cheney.

Generation X was raised by NBC, ABC, CBS, while eating frozen tv dinners. We had just enough brain cells left to raise you guys to not do what we did. You are what the sixties was thinking of and couldn't manage. You set your own limits and are responsible and kind. You will be the best generation since the fifties and I'm glad to have you on the planet. :)
