I am doing my 1-hour glucose test next week and was wondering what to expect? Also, will they be able to tell me the results right then or will I have to wait until the doctor calls? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I just had mine a few weeks ago and everyone said that the orange drink was horrible....it tasted EXACTLY like Slice. I would drink it with lunch to be honest. Basically, I went in, told gave them my slip, they handed me a cup of soda (at the front desk!) and I drank it. Once I was finished completely, I had to tell them, so they could start the 1 hour timing. Once the hour was up, they took my blood, took a urine sample and I was out. It wasn't bad at all.

You have to drink a super thick orange syrup in a certain time frame. They will then take a blood sample to measure your glucose level. You will not get the results that day however. Your doctor will call you if your glucose level is too high (unless you have an appt within a couple days of the test.) If this is your first child, usually the test goes very smoothly and there is nothing to worry about (gestational diabetes). Good Luck.

Here is my experience when I had my glucose test done during pregnancy. I went in to the clinic and the nurse gave me this really syrupy orange soda type drink to finish in about 5 minutes. Then you wait an hour and then have a blood sample taken. In my case I didn't get the results until my next visit, but I'm sure you will get a call if the test is positive.

I had to get the same test done about a month ago and they said if the test came back positive that they would give me a call in a few days because I'd have to come back in for further treatment but they hadn't called me so at the following prenatal they told me my test was negative and everything was ok. So I guess with me I had to wait a couple of days for the call but it never came, I'm not sure if your hopsital would be any different, but I'm pretty sure it'd take a couple of days. Sorry but I hope that helps you. And good luck! I'm sure everything will be ok. :)

Oh and they didn't make me not eat anything for 12 hours or whatever, they just made me come in, drink basically a soda lemon-lime like drink, and wait an hour, come back, draw blood and voila, that was it. Then wait for a call, and so on and so forth. Wasn't too hard for me.

I know a lot of others wrote that you have to fast for 12 hours, but they might have done theirs a long time ago or something because I just did mine a few weeks ago and I only had to fast for the 1 hour after I drank my stuff.

Hopefully you will get one which they have cooled in a fridge because it didn't taste bad at all, more like flat, sugary Sprite. It didn't make me queasy at all, just thirsty.

You won't get the results then because they have to send it to a lab to get results, and they'll probably only call you if it comes back abnormal, and then you will have to do another, longer test. But don't worry about that bridge unless you come to it.

Good luck!

I found out the hard way that not only should you not eat, don't have any tums, either! My nausea was so bad that I had to take tums in the morning so I wouldn't yak on my students. My test was late afternoon, but it still showed high sugar. This led to the 3 hour glucose test which is a huge PAIN IN THE BUTT!

okay first you wont be able to eat anything for like 12 hours before the test. and then they draw you blood. next they make you drink this Orange soda like stuff. it isn't that bad, BUT since you wouldn't have eaten it might make your stomach upset, then after and hour of waiting they draw blood again. and most of the time you have to wait until your next doctor's appointment for the test results, or they will call you with the results

It's not that bad. Easier than most other aspects of being pregnant. Bring a book since you will have to wait around for an hour. You should get the results at your next office visit.

Yes, don't eat anything for at least 12 hours I think they'll tell you before you go. They will give you a bottle of syrupy stuff to drink. Picture really thick soda. You will choose a flavor. GO for orange or limon lime- these aren't nasty at all. You will drink it, and lie down for one hour. Then they will test you for sugar, I think they take blood, or either you pee, i can't remember. Anyway its' really really simple, and they tell you right then if your ok or not. It's like as long as you don't go over a certain number your blood sugar is fine. Just bring a book that day, you're gonna sit for a while.
Nothing to be worried about, no pain involved

Mine was nasty! I had to drink pure glucose in like a half and hour. Then they took my blood. I got the results a couple of days later.
