I looked this up myself they have a site they gave me some answers. They say go to a hardware store and ask for bait traps for ants. They eat the food in trap and take it back to their nest and it ends up killing all the ants in that mound. To get rid of them quickly use a mixture of soap detergent and talcum powder spray it or wipe the area with this mixture.I can't use pesticides because I have asthma and so does my mom.

Take away their food supply. Leave no food out. Pack cereals in metal containers. Wash dishes after every meal.
Mop, clean and vacuum the floors and rugs at least once a week.
If you feel you must, spray your apartment with Raid, and then leave your apartment for several hours. Inhaling bug spray is deadly to bugs, but it's not good for human lungs, either.
The ants will probably go somewhere else for food if you don't set up a Salvation Army post for them in your apartment.
And call your landlord to report the problem.
Be glad it's only ants. Roaches and beetles are vastly more disgusting.

You can get ant killer that is safe for humans and pets that you put around and literately around your entire apartment like against all the walls and it will kill them as they come it...also you can set up ant traps throughout your home and with the other method that i mentioned and that should help...they won't look corney if you get the pretty ones, hope that helps. OH also try to keep things clean they can smell things a mile away that you may not be able to see...

Do you own the apartment or can you call your landlord. Ants build a nest under my front porch every year and invade my foyer. And every year, the condo association comes out and sprays. I also bought the Extra Strength ant hotels and placed them around any doors or windows where they might get in. I think they're made by Raid and you can get them cheap at any Wal-Mart. If you have pets, do not put out any poison other than the ant hotels.

You should first find the place where they are coming from. If it is from a window or any other place outside, you should spray it with ant spray and try to patch up the hole that they are coming from. If they are coming from somewhere inside the apartment building, like a wall, you should go easy on the ant spray (that stuff is toxic) and try to patch up the hole using plaster or other materials. If the problem doesn't stop, call your super or landlord.

Spray RAID anywhere that the ants could get in - cracks in the floor, around the doors and windowsills especially. I've had serious ant problems, but soaking the entry spots in RAID did the trick. You have to repeat it 1 or 2 times every month.

Go to your nearest hardware store and ask the clerk for the ant removal spray. Yes actually ask, don't be stupid and try to find it yourself. Buy that stuff and spray it around your apartment. Remember if you have any pets you might want to remove them from your apartment for a time. Also before you spray do a thorough cleaning using a cleaner that contains bleach.

What kind of ants are they?
If they're carpenter ants, you'll need to locate the source of rotten wood.
Some ants go for sweet foods. Keep your kitchen extra-clean.

I heard or read somewhere that ants won't cross a chalk line. I tried this last summer, and it did keep the ants out for awhile. You just have to "redo" the chalk lines after it rains.
