Why dont people want to be friends with ESL students? Is it the language or racism? I kind of feel that people are racist everywhere, no matter wherever you go, you will definately find not just one but a section of people who wont like you because of your ethnic background. just tell me do you ever feel that you have promoted racism by being one of those people who neglect people because of their ethnic background. Please be frank as you are not somebody I know and I will not taunt you. Lets confess!

one golden answer: pure ignorance!!!
When a person doesn't know about another's character, etc, ignorance swoops down like a vulture, and it is a shame!

This happens because people are insecure and think that if they can feel better than someone else they will alleviate their feelings of insecurity. It doesn't work of course but that's how it happens. Just be who you are and make friends with good people who like you exactly the way you are. You can't change the world - but you can change the way you respond to life. Take the high ground and allow yourself to be happy. Life is too short to go through it in pain because there are people who don't have their heads screwed on straight.

A lot of the ESL students, as I remember from high school, were very clannish and didn't make an effort to interact with people in the mainstream classes. They seemed to like being isolated.

Unfortunately King is right ... pure ignorance is why people act like that ... also fear of the unknown can lend a hand too ... it truely is sad and people really are missing out on a special experience to learn something new.

I'm one of those people that say it doesn't matter what's on the outside...it's what inside that counts...it's who you are. Because we are all the same on the inside...we all have a heart and lungs and veins and things like that. So it really doesn't matter what color ones skin is...at least not to me.
