Affirmative action is the governments way of saying minorities can't hack it on their own. Not only has it out-lived it's usefulness, it was useless in the first place. No one denies that prejudice existed before, or that it exists now. But others have faced the same prejudice and risen above it through their own efforts. As long as minorities rely on affirmative action, they're proving the government correct that they, [minorities], can't rise above their station based upon merit.

Affirmative action, set asides and other programs that are based on gender, race, religion or anything other than their merits are based on the incorrect assumption that people of the protected class would be unable to otherwise earn their position or entry.
I would be insulted if an affirmative action requirement was created for me because of any of those characteristics.
I do believe that laws that prohibit discrimination are correct since they are intended to remove bias. Affirmative action creates a reverse discrimination. I should no more be punished for my characteristics than rewarded for them.
Affirmative action will never cause bigotry or discrimination to end. In fact, I suspect that it will cause resentment by the unprotected classes towards the protected classes and make the problem worse.

Affirmitive Action is a complex issue. Affirmative Action is a double standard in its most natural form, but the wise know that Affirmative Action is one of the only acceptable and tolerable double standards.
The double standard is that Whites cannot benefit from demographic-specific opportunities, such as exclusive ethnic organizations, civil rights groups, or certain government handouts and grants. On the other hand, ethnic minorities can fully benefit from such activities.
You must understand that the double standard CAN be justified. Minorities are socially and economically below the White majority, so it is safe to give handouts and the like because it does no harm to White nor does it make them jealous.
A better analogy would be:
Women get handouts because they are in terms of social and economic status lower than men. For that reason, a woman can it a man, like a minority can shout a racial slander at a White person, and it would not be harmful, but reversed, you get a very different result.

That is a very good question.... Unfortunately, there are still a lot of evil bigots with hiring power in this world that affirmative action is great for. Conversely, there are plenty of good people who have lost out on jobs because of aa. Ultimately, I believe that aa is necessary until we can rid the world of bigotry, which will never happen.

There are so many examples of the reverse discrimination caused by AA. Why the hell should a person's race be given precedence over their abilities, particularly in college admissions? Judge people by their merits, not their skin color.

As a minority, it bothers me. It's like reverse discrimination. I would rather be recognized for my talents and skills than the color of my skin or my gender.
