You are clearly not looking for answers. You are simply trying to troll the message board trying to find support for your own viewpoint. Look at your question. It is not a question. It is an opinion. what makes you think your opinion is more valuable than somebody else's?
If you stick with science, then no a fertilized egg is not a human being. After 8 weeks the fertilized egg has grown into a fetus and at that point it has all the required organs. So your religion tells you its a baby and you make a law barring everyone else from having the freedom. What if someone from a different religion believes it is ok to have abortion? Won't you be imposing your religious beliefs on that person?
And if you want to talk of life, why does life begin at conception? The individual cells, sperm and oum, are already alive. every cell in your body is alive. So how do you deal with that fact? If you use contraceptives you are killing those cells. Isn't that murder?

Well, I believe there are many forms of life in the world. I am Buddhist and I try my best not to harm living things, but I will not hesitate to bust out my can of bug spray if ants invade my kitchen. However, if a dog ran into my house I wouldn’t necessarily reach for my shotgun.
Both the ant and the dog are invaders into my home. They are a nuance to me. But the reason I do not eliminate the dog is because a dog feels pain. A dog feels emotions. An ant has no conscious mind. You can teach a dog tricks. You can train a dog. But would you ever be able to see any sign of conscious thought exhibited by the ant?
Pregnancy is the same thing. It begins with 2 single-celled organisms combining genetic material. It soon turns into a multi-celled organism. Is conscious thought exhibited? Does that multi celled organism feel pain? As the pregnancy progresses, it becomes a fetus. I believe that once human features are exhibited, once the fetus can feel pain, it would be an infringement of the baby's right to live if the mother chooses an abortion.
What was said above, I still I support abortion even though I would never allow my partner to have one if she was carrying my child. This is not hypocritical and let me tell you why. I am a young professional who has done well for himself. I live in an affluent neighborhood and drive a nice sports car. I have the ability to raise and support a child. I would also want to raise a child even if he/she was born out of wedlock or unplanned for.
Now let’s put things into perspective. A poor working class couple is expecting. They know that if they bring that child into the world, that child would suffer. That child would not get the care and attention that every child deserves. It's also the beginning stages of the pregnancy. You tell me if an abortion can be justified.
Every single one of us as responsible human beings needs to make this type of decision for ourselves. We need to weigh the consequences of our actions with our moral convictions.
Hope this helps.....

IMHO it depends on the age of the fetus. If the clump of bloody cells can't live on it's own outside the womb then I don't see how anyone with an IQ above 50 can call it a baby or a human... it's just a clump of bloody cells. On the other hand, by the second trimester, it IS possible for the fetus to survive, but not without massing support.
Of course, the drooling, wild eyed anti-abortionists will disagree.

At the moment of conception a life is formed thus a soul has entered into those cells that are forming a life. We live and learn our entire life starting at conception. Just like you stated a baby in the uterus does move, sleep, suck its thumb, blink and so on and so forth.
I had an abortion at the age of 21, due to medication that harmed the baby. I was sad and tried to console myself by saying it wasn't a life, I was only 10 days pregnant...but I knew better, I knew I wasn't doing what was right by God or by this child but I was selfish and decided not to think about it...but it always comes back and either now or later you have to face what you do.
Life begins at conception...

I am a democrat. I do not support abortion, but I think it is sometimes needed.
Deomocrats know that even if abortion was banned, it would occur in unsanitary and unsafe conditions instead. Both the mother and the baby would then be killed. Kill one person or two, it's like the lesser of 2 evils.
Besides, sometimes it's neccesary. If the mothers life is put in danger, someone is raped etc.
Getting rid of abortions completely would be a political nightmare. There is no real way out of the situation.
My 2 cents. Thanks for listening. Don't be too harsh on me.

a. From a religious standpoint:
As a Catholic, I believe that a baby is a life from the moment of conception.
b.From a non-religious standpoint that helps, too:
Not only can the baby have traits like you said, not only is it alive, but to allow abortions are to allow women and girls who have no responsibility or self-respect (ie. they are basically in the valley of prostitution) to have an easy way out of their problems.
-Are there exceptions to this? YES!!!:
1. Rape victims: Don't make them go through a traumatizing event- that they didn't bring on themselves- and then have a baby with rapist blood flowing through their veins.
2. Incest victims: If they realize what they were doing, abort the baby- so that it does not have to live in shame or have genes that are waaaay too close together- and arrest the parents. If they don't, send them to counseling and abort the baby.
3. Women who are expecting babies that are a significant danger to their health: You don't want to choose a baby over your own health, especially if you hav other kids. Also, sometimes in cases like this, the women can have more children later on.
4. Babies who have been damaged-whether intentionally or unintentionally- by medications, back alley abortions (my aunt told me she used to have a back alley abortionist down living on her block- she used a coat hanger that was bent into a hook that had a sponge attached to the end- I doubt a baby could be born safely after that), etc. If the damage was done intentionally, arrest the mothers and anyone else involved. If not, then it's not their fault, so leave them alone.
c. FYI: How can married couples prevent abortions? Use protection (while the things it blocks are ALIVE, they have no chance- in their current state- of becoming a human being) and try not to get pregnant if they are not financially ready for children.
d. I actually consider anyone who starts having frequent sex with people they are not married to- ESPECIALLY if it is with more then one person- to be stepping into the valley of prostitution. (Many prostitutes basically live by the standard that their only purpose in life is to do what they are naturally capable of doing: having sex and reproducing. Isn't that what many women who start doing what I mentioned start living by?) However, if a prostitute DOES get pregnant, the child should be taken away from them. Also, I know this might sound mean, but if abortion is ever made illegal, there will still be back-alley abortions. While doctors might not risk it (with better technology now, it would be easy to have them arrested), independant people will. My aunt (she plays the role of mom in my family XD) was telling me about a back alley abortionist in a conversation we were talking about who lived two blocks away from us. Women-many prostitutes- would go in, get liquored up, fed the herbal treatments, and then (as I mentioned earlier) would get the coat- hanger- bent- into- a- hook- with- a- sponge- on- the- tip treatment. (I think it is obvious what happened.) If the baby wasn't killed, it was born severely damaged then died, and many times the women would lose the ability to reproduce and sometimes even have sex. She also brought up that few people who went in were good-hearted people who could actually contribute something to society- the majority of them were people who had no future to begin with. So, in the end, banning abortions might be a good thing..... :o

A fetus is not considered a "person" under the law. Recently, laws have been enacted that change that status.
I do not consider a fetus to be a person worthy of the same status given to a child. Where does it end?
Everything is "alive" and is potentially a "human life" eventually. Should we prohibit murdering vegetables since they may eventually become a fetus?
A "person" should be defined as a human who breathes through his nostrils.
But, to each his own. Allowing the Catholic church to dictate laws in the US does nothing other than weaken the US legal system.

That's the $64,000 question! If it is (and I believe so), it is entitled to the protection of law, i.e., in general, no abortions. If not, the "choice" might be available. It is ironic: A woman can abort a baby with no legal intervention (not human). A woman can be a crackhead and damage the fetus, and be charged with child abuse (THEN it's a human). I can't quite figure out the rationale.

I have worked in India as a doctor. I have come across women who need abortion because maybe they were rape victims or tha man who is equally responsible refuses to own responsibility. Some even abort because they are carrying a female fetus and they don't get to decide if they won't to do it. It is the family who decides, the husband and the in-laws. I don't support abortion of the fetus on the ground that it is female, but in order to ban that (and it is banned to abort female fetuses in India and yet it happens all the time) I don't want to give a lifetime of disgrace and financial distress to a woman who is badly needs it. I got married to an Indian and came to US. In India I saw women being abused, as a daughter-in-law in an Indian family I have been abused. My ex-husaband and ex-in-laws will deny that because they never beat me up. They were humane to me and yet they wanted to leave me out on the road in a foreign country where I had nothing. Still they never subject me to any abuse and the law in US also recognizes that there was no abuse. Ethical standards are always higher than legal standards which are designed to maintain law and order. In US I have heard about women being abused, I'm sure I will see it when I start working. The statistical numbers are astronomical for an immigrant like me who believed US to be a country where women had equal rights both socially and legally. So here we have been discussing "a woman's right to choose" because we consider the fetus a living being. Shouldn't we first settle the issue if a woman has rights? Legally, I'm sure in this section people will come up with more rights for women than men. But are those rights executed? In this thread Catholic Church's view on abortion has been discussed. But the vast majority of followers of the Catholic Church are outside of US. So keeping religion out of the issue, I strongly stand by the woman's right to choose. Someone in the thread had mentioned about prostitutes getting rid of their problems. No one wants to be one because it is an easy living. People get forced into it and once in the trade it is not easy to get out. I don't know what kind of system is followed in US, but in India and many parts of Europe it is a vicious circle and taking one step out means total loss of one's life. When a prostitue gives birth to a girl child it is destined to be a prostitue at birth. So isn't it better that child is not born even if the woman is doing it to get rid of her problem. I would call it a blessing in disguise for that unborn fetus who has life.
