i'm trying to install a dvdrw but the inside of the machine is something iv'e never seen...instead of unscrewing...there are plastic clips holding the hardware in and i can't seem to unclip them...it looks like i may have to take the face of the machine off...does anyone know how to do this...by the way its a compaq presario.....

This is known as "tool-less" installation. The "clips" are not clips but they are "slide-locks" and should unlock with a push of your thumb and slide from front to rear, or visa-versa. The drives should then slip out the front of the case. This makes things a bit easier when installing/removing hardware, no wee screws to lose! Your new drive should slip into the case from the front, and then fit flush and lock into place with the slide. Then re-lock the slide into place with the thumb lock.

I've had trouble like this with Compaq cases myself ... I'm going to agree with the previous poster, and recomend first checking the manual. Failing that, you might need to get a little ingenious ... usualy, there's a release of some sort that you can trigger in order to 'open' the slot or port you're trying to get to.

Beyond that, Compaq tech support may yeild some helpful advice .. but I'd consider that a last resort.

You may have a file with the owners manual loaded into it , THAT tells you how to remove stuff and dissasemble some inner components.
