Anyone remember the Japanese animated series "Starblazers", aka "Space Battleship Yamato"?

It aired from 1979 to 1981 where I lived (WCCB TV 18 out of Charlotte, NC). It featured a huge space battleship named the Argo and had characters named Derek Wildstar, Nova, Captain Avatar, Mark Venture, Sandor, and Deslok. It actually was two series merged into one: the first was a journey to a planet called Iscandar to retrieve a machine to help save Earth from radiation poisoning, and the second was the Star Force battling an enemy who raced towards Earth hidden in a gigantic white comet.

I do remember that. Weren't the "bad guys" in Season 2 called the Gamilons or something? I'd forgotten about the series until a few years ago when the band Marcy Playground recorded a great song called "Wave Motion Gun" (about drug use), which reminded me of the Argo.

When I watched it, I was small and I could not figure out why in theTV anime narrator had been counted down the days left before the end of the earth at the ending in every week .
