Web Hosting With Dynamic ip Address?

I want to host my websit myself. I have a dynamic ip address and a nat aware dsl modem. after doing some research I am thinking that if I creat another connection using new connection in the dsl modem the I can select the proper service and pick the proper service. I would like to hear from someone who has had the same experience and succeeded or perhaps not succeeded and I can learn what not to do.

It is possible. I used to monitor the CCTV system at my home using dynamic dns.

- You can use Dynamic DNS www.dyndns.com for domain name resolution. Most broadband routers/modem support dyndns protocol, it should be in the menus somewhere (make sure you are running a recent firmware). Or you can download one of the free dyndns clients for your PC. You can either use a free yourwwwaddress.dyndns.com or you can purchase their service for your own yourwwwaddress.com for a small fee.

- You also need to forward TCP/UDP port 80 (HTTP) to your web server's ip address. Your broadband router does it. For doing this, you need to assign a static IP address (disable DHCP client, do not get IP address automaticaly from your router, assign something like 192.168.1.100 or 10.1.1.100 depending on whatever address rang your router uses) on your Web server PC.

I have tried and it is possible but there are a lot of hoops to go through. The first problem starts with the DNS servers this is a server that usually sits as part of your domain registrant. And matches your domain name to an IP address so the rest of the world can see it. Now here comes the hoops part. What you need to do is negotiate with your ISP to give you the IP of the DHCP server that handles the dynamic IP of your computer(usually a router or a switch). Then in your domain registrant you need to point your domain name to this IP address. The second hoop with your ISP is to forward HTTP requests to your machine based on its network name.
From my personal experience it is all up to your ISP. I was doing it when I lived in a small two when I personally knew the network admin. In a large ISP I really recommend paying the extra money for a static IP. Much less headache

Unfortunetely I do not have actual experince but was thinking of doing this myself when my provider assigns me a Dynamic IP, so when I did the research I came to this website that was perfect for doing it. (Just never got around to doing it)
