There are tons of things to do in and around the Phoenix area the best place to find out whats happening on a weekly basis is Arizona Republic the local news paper which you can also read on-line. Another good source of information is AAA if you belong. There are plenty of things going on its just depends on what you like to do and how much time you have to spend if you have transportation you could drive to the the San Xavier Mission near the Mexican border or go in the other direction and head up to the Grand Canyon and spend the night in Flagstaff and than head to Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon where there is a natural water slide of fresh mountain water really cool on a hot day.
The Arizona Republic can at least give you an idea of what will be happening while you are there.

The best weekend spot is in Tucson!!!! Just had to say that as I live here. Sorry Phoenix, I guess it's an okay place to visit for concerts but I wouldn't want to spend a whole weekend there. Tucson is less expensive than Phoenix. It is also closer if you want to take a day trip to Tombstone.

Precott is nice during the summer. It's about 2 hours north of Phoenix and the temperature is way cooler. They have a number of golf courses, shopping, and downtown they usually have summer events (art walks, jazz fesitivals. ect). It's nice for a weekend getaway but probably not any longer. Try Precott Conference Resort and Conference Center. They even have a casino on premises.

North Scottsdale, at the J.W. Marriott (You can use the facuilties you don't have to stay there!), call them at 1-800-898-4527. Taliesan West, Historic Old Town Scottsdale, Desert Ridge Marketplace. It is a new clean fun part of Phoenix.

Go straight north to Page, Arizona where there is so much beauty and fun, it will be awesome. Lake Powell to swim and boat, the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument is so cool to tour. Lake Powell Escalante Tours is the place to call for all your reservations. They know everything and will tell you the best things to do at the best prices.
