Canada has three types of schools - public, catholic and private.
They can be either french, english or immersion (dual or single track; english or french)
Schools run from elementary to middle school or intermediate to high school and in some places straight from elementary (immersed with middle or intermediate) to high school.
Some schools in Canada are called community schools a terminology that has lingered on from Britsih influence - a community school is a a publicly funded school.
In additional we some specialized schools (trade, special needs, artsy etc.) which can be either type of school - public, catholic, or private and can either be french, english, immersion etc.

a community school is a public school. The taxpayers pay for your child to go to school.
