it's a 2-player game.

SETTING UP
1. Split the deck into two even stacks for 2 players (not including jokers)
2. With your own stack (the half deck) place 1 card face up.
3. To the right of it, place 2 cards, the top one should be face up and the bottom face down.
4. Next to that, place 3 cards with only the top card face up, place 4 cards with only the top card face up, and place 5 cards with only the top card face up. You should have 5 stacks with 1 card in the first stack, 2 in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd, 4 in the 4th, and 5 in the 5th. All top cards should be face up.
6. Your opponent should do the same.
7. With your leftover cards, place them in front of your layout in 1 facedown stack. Your opponent will do the same, so make sure there is enough room between both of your leftover stacks for about a few cards. It is better if you guys are facing each other.

THE RULES OF SPIT

1. You can't have more than 5 stacks in your layout.
2. Whenever you have matching cards by the number, not the suit, you can put them together. You can put matching numbers in your LAYOUT whenever and as many as youhave. So, at the beginning of the game, if you see matching numbers you can put them together.
3. Let's say that you have less that 5 stacks in your layout. You can move piles of the same number into a empty spot and flip up the bottom card face up. If you have more than one facedown card underneath, just flip the top one. if you don't have any bottom cards anywhere, that's ok. Just remember that max number of stacks you can have is 5 and to keep moving and flipping bottom cards when you can.

HOW TO PLAY

1. At the same time, you and your opponent should take the top card of your individual leftover stack of cards and flip it over.
2. The order you put cards is like Solitaire ( Ace, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,Jack, Queen, King), but the thing is that you can place cards like this:ex: ace, king, ace, 2,3,4,5,4.
So, you can go up and down as long as it is in the proper order. You can't have the same number on top of the same number, like you can't have a King on a King or a 7 on a 7.
3.You take cards from your layout (matching or moving or flipping when you have to) on to any of the two cards that was just placed down as long as the cards fit the order.
4. Speed is everything in this game because the only way to win is to get rid of all your cards.
5. You and your opponents keep on flipping cards from the leftover stacks when no one can place a card from their layout or a person decides to pass to the next card.
6. Let's say you run out of cards in your layout, you win...this round. You should now have two stacks from all the cards you were placing down and maybe some cards in the leftover stacks. Since you won this round, get the stack in between the leftover stacks that has the least cards and any cards in your leftover stack (should be the right one). Your opponent (the loser) gets all the cards you didn't get. And then you start all over again until someone is left with no cards(the winner if so). Shuffling helps keep the game fair.

Hope this help! Enjoy!!

The version I know (might be speed) is this...
Two players face each other across a small table.
Cut the deck in half.
Each person deals him/herself out 4 piles just like in solitaire (one face up then 3 down, 2nd pile face up and 2 down, 3rd pile face up and 1 down, 4th pile face up).
If you actually counted out half the deck then move on to the next step, otherwise count the cards you have left and swap with the other person so you have an equal number of cards.
When you play a face up card you can then flip the next one just like in solitaire.
You can always put cards with the same value (10, Q, etc) on top of each other in order to consolidate your solitaire rows. And when a row is gone you can move a face up card (or cards if there's more than one) over to replace it.

Now always holding your 1/2 of the deck in your left hand (right hand if you're left handed) both of you draw the top card in your hand and place it between the two 'solitaire rows' in the middle of the table.
At this point you race to get rid of your solitaire rows. Play your solitaire row cards on top of the middle piles. You can go up or down from the numbers in the middle and you can use either pile in the middle. You cannot play if it's the same value or just b/c it's the same suit. It has to be a number above or below the value in the middle pile.
When neither of you can play on either of the middle piles anymore (and you have to play if you can), then you both draw the top card off the deck in your hand again and continue. This time place the card on top of the pile that has formed.
When one of you runs out of cards in his/her solitaire row, then s/he says stop and gets to pick the pile from the middle s/he wants. S/he cannot touch the piles to see which one is larger. You'll want to pick the smaller pile b/c the object of the game is to get rid of all your cards.
Now WITHOUT SHUFFLING the cards you place the pile from the middle under the deck in your hand.
From here you both deal out your solitaire rows again and repeat the process until one of you runs completely out of cards.
When someone has too few cards to deal out all of them into the solitaire row, he/she deals out as many as s/he can and then flips the top card over of the rows s/he can't complete.
This person will have no more cards in his/her left hand, but s/he is still not allowed to use his/her left hand when playing. S/he cannot be touching any cards when the other person flips his/her card into the middle either.
Since there is only one pile in the middle, if the person w/out a deck in their hand wins the round, s/he will pick the non-existent middle pile and win the whole game.
Hope that's the game you're looking for b/c it took awhile to explain:)
