When you are wearing a raincoat it is usually darker, due to clouds, and there is less visibility...
I think a bright color was chosen for this reason.....So you don't get hit by car's and bike-rider's wearing spandeX...
& yellow was the most fashionable out of the options.
Orange is for city worker's and police, etc.
Pink was'nt inn.......at the time (killa cam made it hot years later)
And so on.....
Yellow was the best choice.........Fashion & Safety-wise

Blue. Definitely blue. Yellow will have grimy cuffs in no time. It'll show every bit of dirt, speck of muddy water, smudge of make-up or lip gloss, or gritty spot where you sat or leaned. In a short time, it will have at least one spot that won't wash out, and even if nobody else notices it, you will. Whereas, blue, especially a medium-to-dark shade, is very forgiving in terms of both dirt and wear. On something like a good coat (and northface certainly counts), you can expect it to last far longer than you'll be at one school, so I wouldn't take school colors into account at all.

If you have kids - don't buy them yellow raincoats. They blend in with the school bus.

i think tht the first raincoat was yellow, so it remains a traditional color for raincoats. they also had many yellow raincoats in the old days.

Due to the fact that when it rains there is low visibility and yellow is a highly visible color.

They aren't. The ones that are make good for visibility in rainy conditions.

Because in the rain it is harder to see. So people can see you easier if you wear a bright color
