My last period was 2-3 months ago, I got a faint positive line on test one, and negative on the next two tests. I am confused.

The first test that showed a faint line was two weeks ago. I thought it was one of the less reliable, so went out and bought ept (measures at 40). It was negative, but not first morning. So I took the second ept yesterday first morning. negative. Then I found out that the first brand was MORE sensitive to the hormone (measures at 20) so I took the other one of it this morning...negative.

I haven't found a place I can afford to get quick blood results.

I can afford the $35 at planned parenthood, but that takes two weeks. my doctor wants an office visit charge - total of $100 for blood test to give result next day.

Get to your local health unit (or planned parenthood) and have a professional test done before going loopy... Then get an appointment with your gyno just to verify that something isn't amiss...

don't forget that stress is one of the biggest factors in missed periods prior to menopause and the stress of not knowing will likely perpetuate the cycle......

ok now if you took them one after another then your next 2 could have been negative due to a low concentration of the pregnancy hormone HCG that the test is looking for. No period for 2-3 months you should have enough hormone to take 10 tests in a row so that is kinda fishy. You should check with your doctor about a blood test and/or an ultrasound. It could be many things ie stress, low body fat percentage, oversized ovaries or a cyst on the ovaries, lots of things. Good luck.

When did you take these tests?
Close together, on the same day? What kind were they?

You COULD get a negative because your urine was not concentrated (i.e. you didn't hold it long enough) when you took the second two tests.

You COULD have had an "evaporation line" on the first test, especially common with cheap ones.

You COULD also have had a "chemical pregnancy", one that survives only briefly (in which case you'd be getting your period soon after the negative tests).

Your doctor can help you sort it out with a test in the office.

False positive pregnancy tests are not very likely. Although, they can be caused by only three things, they are:
1) You recently had a baby
2) You were pregnant but aren't now...miscarriage
3) The test was defective.

Pregnancy tests (at home or in the doc. office) all measure the amount of HCG in your body. It takes about 14 days after ovulation for your body to produce enough HCG to register on a test.

I would head to the obgyn and request a blood test immediately. If you are pregnant, you need to start pre-natal care, if you had a miscarriage, you may need a D & C.

Go to the doctor and have a blood test to know for sure. You just might not have enough preggers hormones in your system to get a positive result. FYI in the future take the test with the first urine of the morning. That's when you get the best reads.

Go to the doc, you may have an etopic pregnancy, something may be wrong but it sounds like you are pregnant but your HCG levels arn't high enough to register(you may be using a cheap test) go to the doc and have a blood test done and you will know for sure

do it again, go to the doctor. It's not normal to miss 2-3 periods. It can be a lot of things besides pregnant. All of which need to be determined my a GYN
