I've never had this happen to me, but I have heard that it can. In fact, my aunt told me that even after you take the cup out of the microwave and go to stir it, it can explode then.

yes. I cooked some bacon one morning in my microwave, later that day I boiled a cup of water. After a couple of minutes it blew up. I mean it blew the door clean off of the microwave and hurled it across the room. I think the vapors from the bacon may have had something to do with it.
